Donner Lake is relatively quiet in October. Even on a Saturday, we saw very few motorboats on the water, but there were quite a few kayaks and paddle boards. During three hours, we also observed only two low-flying planes, none of them business jets, and one helicopter
It is a different story on plane/jet noise over Donner Lake during the summer season. Even within one hour, one can observe and hear several planes flying low over or near the lake. Donner Lake is quieter in October, both on the water and in the sky.
The latest alarming development on plane noise in the Truckee Tahoe region is the rapidly growing number of business jets using the Truckee general aviation airport. These noisy, low-flying and air-polluting jets are damaging the ecology of the area. Their appearance is changing the town’s resort character and negatively affecting the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
